March Quarterly Impact Report: Temple Healthy Chest Initiative

The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative is proud to report it has performed over 10,000 lung screenings since program inception. Research shows that roughly 70% of patients undergoing lung cancer screening will have some radiographic abnormality in their scan results. This report outlines steps the Temple Healthy Chest Initiative has taken to scale screening efforts in order to detect a wide range of chest conditions at earlier stages.

The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative, a health-system wide program aimed to increase the amount of individuals receiving lung screenings in the greater Philadelphia region, presents its quarterly impact report to highlight performance metrics, key program updates, and real patient stories for our community of participating and referring physicians. From innovative research endeavors to community outreach initiatives, we're sharing the outcomes of the collective commitment of our faculty to improving screening rates and lung health outcomes in our community.

Performance Data

Since program inception in 2023, THCI has performed over 10,000 LDCTs, and performance continues to grow in FY25.

Downstream impact of screening: post-procedure recommendations drive referrals to key subspecialty programs, with medical and radiation oncology seeing the highest volumes. Recent screening data shows a rise in 'Other' referrals, highlighting evolving care pathways.

Streamlining Care with a 3-in-1 Chest Scan

Conditions like lung cancer remain difficult to detect until they reach advanced stages, when symptoms typically occur - but also when treatment options become limited. Early identification saves lives. That’s why the Temple Healthy Chest Initiative has introduced an Artificial Intelligence program to support the analysis of imaging data, enhancing the identification of not only lung nodules, but conditions ranging from COPD, to osteoporosis, to other cardiovascular abnormalities. By enhancing the precision and efficiency of screenings, the Temple Healthy Chest Initiative’s use of artificial intelligence can help give early answers and support for patients who may have otherwise gone years without help.
